9.40- 10.15: Incident Free Operations, A Deliberate Act
Incident free operations ARE possible. Working in the most dangerous industry in the world requires the safest environment possible. There are identifiable solutions to dramatically improve the drilling industry toward that objective while enhancing Operational Excellence. This high-energy presentation, filled with entertaining video clips, will look at three industries that started their performance/safety initiatives for the same tragic reasons decades prior to Piper Alpha. The industries are: commercial aviation, NASA Space Operations, and Combat Operations: US Navy Aircraft Carriers.
Brian “Bru” Brurud, CheckSix, USA
10.15-10.45: Health & Safety – Dilemmas and Challenges
The Norwegian Oil Industry Association’s ambition is to be a world leader in the oil and gas industry for health, safety and the working environment, based on a zero accident philosophy. Addressing health, safety and working environment issues and identifying best practices throughout the value chain, add value to the results on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS). However, sometimes excellent initiatives may lead to contradictory health & safety results and this presentation will try to describe or illustrate different situations where health & safety scenarios are associated with conflicting interests.
Aud Nistov, HSE Manage, The Norwegian Oil Industry Association, OLF
10.45-11.15:Coffee break
10.45-11-15:Exhibition area open
11.15-12.00: StrongBODY – StrongMIND
For Chris Macdonald, health is about feeling well. If you feel well you naturally have an energy surplus and the ability to take care and behave safely. When Chris approaches the audience he does this with the purpose of showing that good health is energy and creates the foundation for behaving in a safe and conscientious way. At the safety conference he will build the bridge between fundamental health and the ability to behave and react in a safe way.
Chris Macdonald, Coach and facilitator, Denmark
12.00-12.30: Fatigue Management, Schlumberger
Schlumberger Fatigue Management is a pragmatic, results-oriented training that covers all aspects of fatigue, from causes to management practices. Schlumberger will introduce how they work with employees and empower them with tools to reduce the negative effects of fatigue.
Duncan Lloyd, North Sea HSE Manager,
12.30-13.45: Lunch break
12.30-13.45: Exhibition area open
13.45-14.30: Risk perception
You cannot manage risks if you don’t see them. The perception of ‘what is a risk’ is shaped by many more factors than just the probability of a negative outcome times the consequences. Seemingly irrational factors influence the perception. The presentation will give insight on why risk perception is important to take into account in safety initiatives and how it can be manipulated. Jop Groeneweg will also discuss risk-taking behaviour in general from various psychological perspectives.
Professor Jop Groeneweg, Leiden University, Holland
14.30-15.00: Implementing a Compliance & Leadership program to improve HSE results
The core of the Compliance and Leadership programme in Statoil is to enable the organization to deliver results at a higher and more stable performance level. The main tool to achieve better performance is to drive through a step-by-step work process focusing systematically on managing risks and learning by setting the relationship and dependency between the execution of tasks with high precision and professional leadership.
Gunnar Breivik, Senior Vice President HSE Statoil, Norway
15.00-15.45: Afternoon break
15.00-15.45: Exhibition area open
15.45-16.15: Asset Integrity Performance Indicators: Recent Developments for the Upstream Oil and Gas Industry
Following the 2005 Texas City Refinery incident, much work has been done to progress the realization that a focus on leading indicators to prevent personal injuries will not reveal systemic weaknesses that may lead to a process safety incident. The International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (OGP) has commissioned a task force to determine recommended Asset Integrity KPIs for the upstream industry, to allow industry benchmarking for the first time for the year 2010. This presentation will outline the current work of the task force that has examined, inter alia, the draft recommended practice API 754 with a view to tailoring its recommendations for widespread use in the upstream industry.
Brett Doherty, Rasgas Qatar Chairman of the Process Safety subcommittee in OGP
16.15-16.45: Asset Integrity- Process Safety Managementinvolving the workforce
Systems in themselves do not guarantee safe operations. But it is a good start to have safety critical elements identified and reflected in your maintenance management system. The work force must be involved in developing the systems and understand the importance of maintaining and assuring equipment integrity. Only then can you keep your safety barriers intact and functional at all times.
Diederick Bax, Business Development Director, Shell Global Solutions
